City Hall Exhibitions Reception
North Charleston City Hall, 2nd & 3rd Floors
2500 City Hall Lane, North Charleston, SC 29406
Join us for an evening reception in honor of the concurrent exhibitions on display at North Charleston City Hall. The 3rd floor exhibition, Honoring the Heroines of the Civil Rights Movement, features a series of swing coats by Patricia A. Montgomery of Oakland, CA. Montgomery constructs her swing coats from story quilts using traditional African American quilting design and construction techniques. Each coat represents one unsung heroine of the Civil Rights Movement. A new series of paintings by the City’s current artist-in-residence, Quintin Chaplin, will be on view on the 2nd floor. In his exhibition, The Culture: Part 2, Chaplin presents a collection of acrylic and watercolor paintings that combine imagery from politics, fashion, music, sports, movies, race, childhood, and religion, to shine a light on issues facing modern society. Live music will be provided by local jazz pianist Richard Harris White Jr. Classically trained from the age of 7 to 17, White was first introduced to jazz as a teenager. He’s now a regular in the Charleston music scene, performing weekly at the Charleston Grill, as well as with groups such as the 17 South Band and the Charleston Jazz Orchestra. Refreshments will be served.
