City Hall Exhibitions Reception
North Charleston City Hall, 2nd & 3rd Floors
2500 City Hall Lane, North Charleston, SC 29406
Join us for an evening reception in honor of the concurrent exhibitions and installations on display at City Hall. The 3rd floor exhibition, Honduras: Nuestro Arte, Nuestra Vida (Our Art, Our Life), highlights eleven Honduran artists and one local guest artist. The international group show features new paintings inspired by life in Honduras, pre-Columbian cultural motifs, and the female form. Many of the artists will be present, offering brief talks about their work beginning at 6:30pm. A new series of pieces by the City’s current artist-in-residence, Camela Guevara, will be on view on the 2nd floor. In her solo exhibition, CREST, Guevara presents a collection of new gouache paintings and sculptural fiber art pieces exploring aeronautics in relation to class. The reception will also honor Guilded and Indivisible, a two-part group art installation organized by the North Charleston Artist Guild and on display in the City Hall ground floor lobby. Live jazz music will be provided by local pianist Demetrius Doctor. Doctor is the Minister of Music at Royal Missionary Baptist Church, a regular on the Charleston jazz scene, and has performed with numerous world-renowned gospel and jazz artists both nationally and abroad. Refreshments will be served.
Exhibition viewing times: May 1-June 22, 2018, 8:00am-7:00pm
