Bring your blankets, chairs, and dancin’ shoes for a jammin’ Thursday night marsh-side! The Pinkerton Raid from Durham, NC, will kick things off from 5:30-6:30pm with their ebullient, dynamic Americana and indie pop. The band has performed at a variety festivals and notable venues all over the Midwest and East Coast with bands ranging from high-energy pop acts like The Collection, The Soil & The Sun, and The Old Ceremony, to gentle folk singers like Noah Gunderson, Denison Witmer, The Cactus Blossoms, and Lowland Hum. From 7:00-9:00pm, the Marsh Jam kicks into high gear with Big Mean Sound Machine. The fierce, 9-piece ensemble based in Ithaca, NY, produces a thunderous dance party that fuses afrobeat, funk, Latin and psychedelia. The band has been captivating audiences throughout the Northeast and beyond since 2009 with their killer rhythm section, heavy bass, keys, and horns. Their expansive sound has been tracked on several releases, including their most recent LP Runnin’ for the Ghost. In addition to awesome live tunes, street magician Glen Yost from Salisbury, NC, will amaze and amuse folks of all ages with his sleight-of-hand tricks and medicinal humor. Local artist kolpeace will also be featured, sharing his talents in a live painting demonstration from 6:00-8:00pm. Kids are welcome to explore Captain Timothy E. Dillinger’s pirate encampment and hear stories of pirates, planters, and patriots (5:30-7:30pm). In addition to his costumed storytelling, the local author, illustrator, and actor/re-enactor will offer photo opportunities, as well as sales and signings of his original book series. There will also be bubble fun and circus entertainment provided by Good Clean Fun for all to enjoy. Plenty of dinner options will be available from one of the local food trucks on site, and ICEBOX will be on hand serving up tasty local brews from the beer garden.
