In this two-day workshop for all skill levels, artist, author, and arts educator Debbie Jackson will take participants on a fascinating creative journey using a variety of metallic mediums to transform the surface of polymer clay. Learn innovative ways to use metallic foils, composition leaf, metallic fibers, powders, paints, and more. Participants will have the opportunity to take advantage of Debbie’s extensive mold collection made from items like buttons, costume jewelry, and African brass pieces to make components for their creations, as well as make an assortment of textured clay sheets from a variety of techniques to be used for creating an extensive collection of exquisite embellishments, beads, buttons, and jewelry as time allows. These lustrous pieces can be used on textile creations, wearables, quilts, and more! If you like things that sparkle and shimmer, this class is for you! Debbie Jackson has more than 20 years of experience in teaching and working with polymer clay. She manages a business, Debbie’s Adornments, as an avenue to sell her original, hand-crafted creations and publications. Her first book, Polymer Clay Jewelry, was published in 2004. Currently, one of her jewelry collections is being showcased and sold exclusively at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. All clay, major tools, and equipment will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring thin to medium-sized double-pointed knitting needles, if handy. There will be a one-hour lunch break each day. Participants may bring their own lunch or purchase a boxed lunch at time of registration.
