Senior Outreach – Blues Concert
North Charleston Senior Center at Northwood
8708 Antler Drive, North Charleston, SC 29406
Local keyboard player, singer/songwriter, promoter, and blues advocate, Gary Erwin, better known as Shrimp City Slim, will perform his unique style of piano/vocal blues based in the Chicago and New Orleans traditions, with just the right amount of historical narrative to engage, entertain, and enlighten. Erwin has been performing solo and with his band throughout the Southeast and overseas for more than 30 years. In that time, he has released 14 albums and shared the stage with blues legends like BB King, Bobby Blue Bland, Jimmy Rogers, Junior Wells, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, and more. In 2013, former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley named March 27 “Shrimp City Slim/Gary Erwin Day” in honor of his dedication to playing and promoting blues music in our area. Shrimp City Slim was inducted into the Lowcountry Music Hall of Fame in 2017.
